actually it never was, but whatev. thanks to that kitchen goddess who cooks sensually enough to convert a straight girl (aka Nigella Lawson – youtube that if you want to see what i mean) i found an incredibly easy and addictive pasta dish that i usually bust out when it’s my turn to cook or i’ve got dinner guests. basically it’s just a mashup of linguine, crimini mushrooms, the juice and zest of a lemon, olive oil, fresh thyme, parsley, salt and pepper. you don’t even have to cook the mushrooms. man, i could eat that stuff all day. bridget made fun of me because after making this recipe at least 5 times now, i still follow the instructions. i told her that not all of us can be as naturally gifted in the kitchen as she.
unrelated vegan tip: it’s best to monitor your garbanzo bean consumption, unless of course you enjoy excessive bloating and lower intestinal discomfort. ditto for lentils.
tootles… jessica
So… Question for you new vegans: are you seriuously considering not consuming any animal by-product whatsoever? I’ve spent many, many lunch hours talking to my vegan colleague at work about what it’s really like to be a vegan. There is so much more than avoiding meats, dairy, eggs. Apparently you need to consider where you buy your flour (and anything made with flour)… Most big farming companies use huge tractor mills to extract the grains, milling any small animal that’s in the way (hares, groundhogs, foxes, mice, squirrels, etc.). Those get ground up together with the grains and, although everything gets the shit processed out of it, the actual making of that flour killed tons of little creatures.
And he mentioned something about toothpaste not being vegan? I’ll get more info on it.
It would be interesting to see how far you will take this. Jess, you raised the question of your leather goods – those amazing knee-high leather boots you have are definitely a vegan no-no 😦
Good luck! 🙂
we are slowly learning about all the things that could possibly contain animal products and you’re right, it is definitely more than you would think. even gelatin vitamin caps are a no-no because gelatin is an animal product. same goes for marshmallows and gummy candies! we are learning along the way which is what this project is all about! jess
